Born and raised in Chicago, Jaire Malik Sims is an accomplished scholar with an affinity for writing.

From a young age, Jaire struggled to form and maintain deep connections and friendships. Although a straight-A student, Jaire’s quiet nature and social anxiety made him a prime target for bullies. This trauma experienced in early adolescence subsequently led Jaire to seek professional help in the form of professional counseling and a mental health assessment.

At twenty-one and as a junior in college, Jaire was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. Fast forward one year, Jaire proved that he had overcome all of the challenges he had faced up until this point by graduating from Monmouth College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies.

Throughout his school and college years, educators often told Sims that he possessed strong writing skills. This encouragement played a part in motivating him to write his first novel, Getting By. A debut novel that was named a finalist in the African American Fiction category of the 2021 Next Generation Indie Book Awards.

Jaire hopes his book will reach specific demographics who share commonalities with him. He wishes to inspire these like-minded individuals to draw inspiration from their life experiences and perhaps someday create a story of their own.
